End of an era

Driving into the thriving epicentre of excitement some refer to as central Geelong this afternoon, I tried desperately to imagine what I would miss most about my hometown. Would it be the proliferation of tracksuit clad bogans pushing prams full of grotty horrible, next generation welfare receipents? Or maybe the explosion of 'soccer mums' and they horrendous driving skills as the try and naviage the Salvidor Dali inspired road planning, which is Geelong, in their oversized people movers and four wheel drives?

Then it dawned on me what I would miss the most. It had to be the 'Park Avenue' feel to the shopping precicnt. Of course, Park Avenue may not have as many '$2' shops, or as many 'crazy discounters' as Geelong and well, to be honest, we don't even have a Starbucks, but I'm fairly sure that is a good thing...

I'm fairly confident the one thing I won't be missing in a hurry are the 28 sets of traffic lights between one end of Geelong and the other. Yes, you read correctly. Twenty eight seperates sets of traffic lights between my house (I live on the edge of town) and the other end... eg. the end which lets to the glamourtropolis of Melbourne. Hmmm, maybe that's just a similar point to the Starbucks.

Society is indeed a contract...it becomes a partnership not only between those who are living, but between those who are living, those who are dead, and those who are to be born.

A woman does not want the truth; what is truth to women? From the beginning, nothing has been more alien, repugnant, and hostile to woman than the truth - her great art is the lie, her highest concern is mere appearance and beauty.

Every man takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world.

There is nothing funny about Halloween. This sarcastic festival reflects, rather, an infernal demand for revenge by children on the adult world.
