My disdain for the British media is hardly a secret. Trashy tabloid rags covered in scantily clad, garish whores (and that's just the local TV stars) and 'shocking' news of the latest epidemic, killer strain of GM food, pinko/lefto/poofter/dolecheating academics who are corrupting the moral fibre of our youth and the pages upon pages of agony aunt columns and star spotting gossip.
The current problem I am having with the media is Jordon. No, not the American basketball player, but the uber skanky British model famous for her tits 'celebrity' who has announced her pregnancy with partner Peter Andre. For my overseas readers check out Jordan here. The final straw to break this camels back came yesterday, splashed over the front page of one of the ever so illustrious papers, The Sun. This paper almost proves my theory that educational resources are wasted teaching some people to read. Just as well they have nice bright pictures.
My point? The headline itself is unimportant. What struck me was the tag underneath it. 'Exclusive Interview!' We are talking about a woman who has been on the front page of nearly every single paper for almost a week, has the cover of several top selling magazines including a lavish photoshoot and mind numbingly ubsurd interview (So, Jordan, you're pregnant! How did that happen?') in OK! magazine and has received more hours of TV time than Tony Blair has received in the past 7 years of his tenure.
When did news and gross self publicity meld into one? Was I asleep or passed out in a drunken stupor at the time? People...be vigilant! Stop buying this crap. If you have to read gross displays of self grandiose big noting, read blogs, but work with me here. Our newspapers print this SHIT because people read it! It's bad enough being exposed in passing, but start expecting a little more of your newspapers and most of all, yourselves.
